So I've finally bitten the bullet and bought myself a point-and-shoot digital camera. A beauty it is too - Panasonic Lumix DMC LX3 with a Leica lens worth the cost of the camera. I bought it in New York at B&H Photo, but since the batteries needed 2 hours to charge I didn't really have time to make multiple treks as well as to take a tour of the city. Next time perhaps. So my last layover was Frankfurt and whilst the weather was still nice I took a few shots in the city. Enjoy! Borse - Frankfurt Stock Exchange building. The street next to it was lined with markets, bought some very yummy strawberries and raspberries :-) View from Romerberg. Frankfurt Town Hall. Lots of weddings happening here, there were about 3 in one hour! Dom, aka. St Bartholomeus Cathedral St. Paul's Cathedral Some random standing guard outside the Historical Museum Eisener Steg - Iron Bridge View from Eisener Steg Dreikönigskirche - Gothic revival church So after these shots were taken the weather went from half decent to majorly overcast to downright pouring with rain and windy. Was so soaked by the time I went back to the hotel :-( Next up is Colombo, though I doubt I'll be doing very much, probably going to use the layover to check my accounts, tally receipts and read some books. Boring I know! Labels: Layovers 14 commentsSaturday, March 13, 2010
So I'm back! Can't believe this is the first time I've gone a whole month without posting (well, the first time my archive list on the left has something missing). The laptop didn't die, Sharjah didn't experience any earthquakes, my apartment didn't flood (despite Dubai's best efforts) and Eti-slow did not block my internet. My absence has simply been due to lack of motivation, resulting in the biggest hurdle to face the average blogger... WRITER'S BLOCK!This lack of motivation was the result of a not-very-exciting February roster. The first third of Feb was spent on leave, and since I was saving and scrounging every last fil for my trip to Oslo in May the only place I could afford to go was Perth, and as much as I love to see my family and friends, every day I spend there reminds me why I moved out of there in the first place. It's pretty claustrophobic... After I returned from leave I had a 6 day Melbourne-Auckland, followed by a 6 day Brisbane-Auckland, and I think it was between when I landed in DXB from Melbourne and getting things ready to leave for Brisbane again that I was in the ultimate 'meh' state of mind. But now it's March, and a new month means a new roster, and a fabulous roster too, despite not getting anything I bid for. Just came back from San Francisco - the last time I was there I spent it with my best mate Kris where we did quite a few touristy things - Lombard Street, Fisherman's Wharf/Fort Mason, a super-geeky Segway tour, Golden Gate Bridge and breakkie at Cafe de la Presse, plus numerous runs to Wholefoods market for sustenance. This time I wanted to do a few other things - Lobster Bisque at Pier 39, art shopping at Haight Street, baking supplies from Williams Sonoma. Ended up at St Mary's Cathedral early on in the day, and the exterior is somewhat plain, but the inside is just gorgeous! These photos were taken on my mobile and do not even begin to do the place any justice - it's so beautiful... Yeah it's no surprise that virtually the whole time I was inside there I was looking up. And look what I found inside the change room at Loyal Army. Too cute! Meanwhile with all these flights to Melbourne I've been doing lately I've been picking up some artwork to liven up the place with. From PanelPop in Brunswick St. Currently have 6 pieces from these guys, but these four are my favorite, all from Ghostpatrol. Risographs from Dylan Martorell, Neryl Walker and Kate Banazi. From Lamington Drive Gallery. A big part of me wants to go back and get more but just the thought of doing a 6 day trip again soon has me curling into the foetus position. So that's it for now I suppose - have to sleep for a Kuwait turn. Hope you guys didn't miss me too much :-) Labels: Layovers, Random Thoughts, Work 14 comments |
