Hey guys, just a quick update...Currently at the airport in Dubai waiting for my flight to Perth. I'm going to be there for 2 weeks as part of my annual leave, which is good because there are people I'm keen to catch up with that I haven't seen since February (or worse, since I moved to Dubai...) My reserve period has been rather good, first day I got walloped with a flight to Amman, which was interesting to say the least. they then gave me a standby duty and didn't call me. Then some days off, and a Sydney/Christchuch, then more days off. So out of 13 Reserve days I've been at home in Dubai for 7 of them, which is a bit much. I'd rather be busy. In Sydney I didn't do very much, caught up with an old WAULS friend, Mark, who I hadn't seen since 2004. In Christchurch I just hung out with the crew, conned all of them into eating at my favorite hangout. The rest of the time was spent sleeping. Boring I know. There's also been some drama with our building. The other day I went to go down to the shops for some milk and phone credit, opened the elevator and a torrent of water poured out. (You know that scene in 'The Shining' where the elevator opens and blood comes pouring out? It reminded me of that.) Apparently on the 4th floor a pipe burst, and flooded the affected apartment to ankle deep, and security didn't disable the lifts in time, so every singe floor of the building was muddy and wet. I ended up using the stairs, and going down wasn't so bad, but walking up 11 flights a mere 5 minutes after going down them was hard on my legs. They felt like jelly afterward. I was lucky I didn't have a flight, I can't imagine hauling my suitcase down 11 flights of stairs. Even today when I went down only one lift was working, so when I get back I'm sure things will be back to normal. Also have a new flatmate! Lauren, from the UK. Seems nice enough, poor girl doesn't have a hose for her shower, or a dressing table. Only seen her for a bit because when she moved in she left about 6 hours later to go on leave, then she came back yesterday and now I'm going to Perth. So I hope she'll hang around for a bit longer. Anyway, take care, I'll be back flying in no time... Labels: Around Dubai, Layovers, Random Thoughts, Work 8 comments |
