So I have finally moved into my new place in Al Nahda, which is still technically in Dubai but very close to the Sharjah border. Initially I didn't realise how close I was to the border until I saw the receipt for one of the food court outlets. Despite it being 2 minutes walk away from my place, the phone area code was a 06 instead of 04.

I guess for the first time visitor Sharjah and Dubai don't look all that different. It still has construction. It still has desert. It still has the same malls. But Sharjah is the most conservative Emirate in the UAE. No alcohol whatsoever. People dress a little more conservatively. I don't know why but it doesn't feel the same on the other side of the border, even though it's very hard to tell where that border is.

Anyway, I've been in my apartment for 2 weeks now and I love it to bits! Single accomodation is the way to go, no frustrating flatmates suffering PMS, no worrying about how loud you are when you're leaving or returning from a flight. I can use the washing machine whenever and for how long I like, and can do the dishes whenever I like. No worrying if the other flatmate is drinking my special Pandan Instant tea which I brought back from a Bangkok layover, or eating my beloved Tim Tams or Vegemite. I can have friends over when I like, and we can talk as loud as we want. The freedom I get now is just what I needed...

On the downside, with all this moving and what not, I am still without broadband internet and pay-TV, so I'm going a bit crazy watching my DVDs for the 6th time. I'm getting by with the Free WIFI at Caribou Coffee in Sharjah, but once I get everything at home set up I'll be back to posting greatness in no time. So sit tight guys, more posts are on the way :-)
